An important historical event occurred on June 22 when the Red Bay Whaling Site in Labrador was given World Heritage designation by the World Heritage Committee of UNESC0. This decision was made by the United Nations committee on Saturday. Red Bay is being recognized for its Basque history.  This is a history it shares with Placentia as was noted by the recent celebration in Spain of the writing of a will by a Basque sailor in 1563 asking to be buried in Placentia.
