Bernard Penney of Jerseyside has constructed models of two building that were once important in the lives of people in the Placentia Area but these buildings have since disappeared, the Cottage Hospital and the Railway Station.  The models have been up for sale for some time.  When no one else locally showed an interest in buying them the Placentia Area Historically Society decided to take up the challenge for fear that the models may be sold outside the community. PAHS has now launched a campaign to raise six thousand dollars and hopes residents and former residents as well as businesses and organizations will join the campaign to save these models.

Announcing the campaign, PAHS president, Tom O’Keefe said, “We felt it important that these models stay in the community and we plan to display them permanently in the O’Reilly House Museum.” He also said he expects that many people who were born in or had their children in the hospital, or both,  will want to contribute to keeping the memory of it alive. He added, “Other people will have had connections with the railway station and will also want to see this artifact around in future years.”  He feels that everyone will see the buildings as part of our heritage and want to keep these models. If the campaign raises more than is needed for the models it will go towards upkeep and development of the O'Reilly House Museum.

People who want to contribute to this campaign can send a cheque to the Placentia Area Historical Society, P.O. Box 233, Placentia, NL, A0B 2Y0 or use thedonate buttonon the website at placentiahistory.ca. Being a charitable organization PAHS can provide a tax receipt.
