On August 13 the Placentia Area Historical Society sponsored a successful Tea Party and Heritage Awards event. As usual many people were in period costume, refreshments were served, and music provide. This year because it was the 70th. Anniversary of the Atlantic Charter the Tea Party was dedicated to that event.
It also remembered this was the 70th. Anniversary of the establishment of the U.S. Base at Argentia and of the sorrowful moving of people from their homes to allow for the base.
As usual a main activity was the awarding of Heritage Awards and they year the recipients were Brendan Collins, Linda Grim and Philip Meade and the late Eileen Houlihan. Because Brendan Collins could not be there his brother, Felix Collins, Minister of Justice, accepted his award.
Following the awards a new outdoor seat for the museum was dedicated to the family of Patrick J. and Dorthy (Greene) O'Keefe. This resulted from the passing of a Life Member of the historical society Hilda O'Keefe and some of the family who donated the seat wanted it to be in memory of her and others in the family who have passed.
It was a sunny day and the aproximate 50 people who attended enjoyed the event. Thanks to all who assisted.
