Doors Open, which gives the public an opportunity to freely visit curturally and historical significant buildings and sites. was a success in Placentia for 2010. Sponsored by the Placentia Area Historical Society in partnership with the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador, the event was held from 10 am to 4 pm on Sunday, August 29.
The O'Reilly House Museum had approximately fifty visitors during the six hour period. Castle Hill National Historic Site had about twice the visitors it had on the previous day even though that was a day the East Coast Ferry operates. Besides those two historic sites, visitors were welcomed at local accommodations, government agencies, artist's studios, churches, archaeological digs and displays, etc. For information on the individual sites visitopendoorsdays.com
