On Saturday, August 14, 2021 a dinner was held at the Placentia Bay Cultural Arts Centre to celebrate the 80th. Anniversary of Atlantic Charter agreed to between President Roosevelt and Prime Minister Churchill off Ship Harbour, Placentia Bay on August 14 1941. Due to COVID-19, the event was not open to the general public, however it was recorded and will be shared on the Town’s site. Those in attendance had the pleasure of sharing
the same menu served aboard the S.S. Augusta during the secret meeting in Placentia Bay. The event was organized by the Town of Placentia with assistance from Gary Walsh, Ches Crosbie and Barry Davenport. After a welcome by Councillor Jane Hynes a number of politicians and officials brought greetings before the meal.
The keynote address was delivered by renowned author, and professor, Dr. Peter H. Russell. This was followed by musical entertainment by the Placentia Theatre Festival.
The dinner was complemented by a virtual presentation via YouTube of the play “Mysterious Strangers” written by local playwright Agnes Walsh with comments by Premier Furey and Erin O’Toole.
